Hey there, it's Eternal Ramblings, the singing sensei you never knew you needed!
Let's hit those high notes and give Mariah a run for her money!
Now, singing high notes can be a daunting task for many people, especially if you're not blessed with a naturally high-pitched voice. But fear not, my fellow vocal warriors, for I am here to guide you on the path to high-note glory!
First things first, you need to warm up those vocal cords. No one wants to sound like a cat in heat trying to reach a high note. Right?
Start with some basic scales and gradually work your way up the octaves. You can also try some lip trills or humming exercises to get your vocal cords buzzing.
Now, here comes the tricky part - hitting those high notes. The key here is to relax and not try too hard. Think of it as a first date - you want to impress, but you don't want to come on too strong.
Take a deep breath, stand up straight, and let the note flow out naturally. It might help to visualise that the note is lower than you are imagining it to be and sing it like a normal, in-your-range note. If you're still struggling, try imagining that you're a famous pop star performing in front of a screaming crowd. Sometimes a little bit of imagination can go a long way. And if that doesn't work, just pretend you're a helium balloon and let your voice float up to the high notes.
Another helpful tip is to focus on your vowels. High notes are easier to hit when you elongate your vowels, so try stretching out your "ee" and "oo" sounds. Just don't stretch them out too much or you'll sound like a cartoon character. Definitely do it if you want to sound like a cartoon character like in my KAPOW!'s song “Want Some Get Some”, I surely did.
If all else fails, you can always fake it till you make it. Pretend to hit those high notes by making exaggerated facial expressions and throwing in some vibrato. No one will know the difference, and you'll look like a professional. (I will though!) Now you know the secret to my crazy singing faces too.
One more thing to keep in mind is that singing high notes requires proper breathing techniques. Make sure you take deep breaths and support your voice from your diaphragm. This will give you the power and control you need to hit those high notes with ease.
And don't forget to stay hydrated - drinking plenty of water will keep your vocal cords lubricated and prevent strain or damage.
With these tips in mind, you're well on your way to becoming a high-note superstar. I will share some of my favourite exercises soon too on the blog that you can just copy and use like Kakashi the copy ninja but if you can't wait and want to improve today, book a lesson on this website today.
Just remember to have fun with it and not take yourself too seriously along the way. After all, singing is all about expressing yourself and letting your voice shine naturally. So, go ahead and belt out those high notes with confidence and pride. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be the next Mariah Carey or Freddie Mercury or Eternalramblings.
